Hello, my name is Stephanie, and I am the author of How to Pass The CPA Exam (Wiley) and the publisher of several accounting professional exam prep sites.
After running my main site on CPA exam prep for 8 years, I have received so many requests on resume, interview, job hunting and career advice that I decide to launch a new site to share my own experience and research on this important subject.
After a few years at Morgan Stanley as an investment banker, I went to work for my client (a big multi-national company) in the finance department working under the CFO.
The company was undergoing a major de-leveraging exercise after a mega merger, and I was hired to be responsible for the corporate finance, credit ratings and other related refinancing exercises.
During this time, I had many opportunities to work with colleagues in the financial accounting, cost accounting, internal audit, treasury and many other finance-related departments.
I also developed a close working relationship with the audit teams from KPMG and PwC — given the size and activity of our company, these two teams stayed in our office every day for several years.
After passing the CPA exam, I was given the extra responsibility of overseeing the audit of several major subsidiaries, as well as screening resumes of new hires for the finance and accounting department.
What I can Offer
My experience is helpful in offering a glimpse of what it’s like working as an accountant or related professionals in the accounting / finance field.
More importantly, this site can offer practical tips on how to craft your accounting resume, ace your interview and nail an offer of your dream.
I can only cover finance and accounting in the corporate world, and investment banking if you want to quit your current job for a change… how about Big 4 and public accounting?
Here Comes John
My husband John graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was hired by Coopers and Lybrand (now PwC) right out of college. John is a CPA and CFA, was CFO of a financial institution and now the boss of a Private Equity Fund.
He is obviously too busy to run this site, but through him I am hoping to shed some light on how to get hired by Big 4 and what it’s really like working there; and if you aspire to work in industry, the path towards CFO and CEO in a corporation.
